New Edition of Directive 013: Suspension Requirements for Wells
Today we released a new edition of Directive 013: Suspension Requirements for Wells. The directive now gives licensees that have an AER-approved closure plan the option of performing annual inspections of low-risk wells that have been inactive for ten or more years (“medium-risk type 6 wells”) instead of conducting downhole suspension and performing periodic pressure testing.
No other requirements have been changed. However, sections 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.2.1, and 3.3.1 of the directive have been modified to better communicate initial suspension and on-going inspection requirements.
Directive 013 is available on the AER website, www.aer.ca. Printed copies of the directive can be purchased from AER Order Fulfillment, Suite 1000, 250 – 5 Street SW, Calgary, Alberta T2P 0R4; telephone: 403-297-8311 or 1-855-297-8311 (toll free; option 0); fax: 403-297-7040; email: @email.
