Venting compliance program
The AER launched the venting compliance program in January 2016 to ensure operators were following AER venting requirements.
The AER began by focussing on operators venting more than 1000 m3 per day. Since the program launched, reported venting in the province has decreased by about 20 per cent.
The AER will now be implementing the second phase of the program by
- auditing all oil and bitumen batteries and wells reporting venting greater than 500 m3/day; and
- processing all facility applications where venting is indicated at more than 500 m3/day as nonroutine.
Noncompliant licensees will be advised of their noncompliant inventory via letter this week.
