Area-Based Closure OneStop Training Sessions

Area-based closure (ABC) is a program jointly developed by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the Explorers and Producers Association of Canada, the Petroleum Services Association of Canada, and the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER). The program enables a more efficient, effective closure process (abandonment and decommissioning through to reclamation) for oil and gas infrastructure, such as wells, facilities, and pipelines.

Beginning August 30, licensees will be able to opt into the ABC program using OneStop. Within OneStop, an online mapping tool (Map Viewer) will allow companies to collaborate with one another to coordinate their closure program.

The AER is offering training session for licensees and service providers who want to access this program and plan their ABC activities using OneStop. These training sessions will be held at our Calgary head office, Edmonton regional office, and Grande Prairie and Medicine Hat field centres. Attendance is limited to two people per company.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Secure login access to OneStop and Map Viewer
  • OneStop navigation and use
  • Map Viewer layers, drawing tools, and navigation
  • ABC program opt-in process
